Portfolios: Site Host Comparisons

CMS sites for your portfolio (some free, some not)

In previous semesters, we asked students to examine some possible portfolio platforms, considering these questions:

  • Is it able to have all of the required items we are asking for? Home page, bio, resume, work examples, home button on each page, photos, videos, contact info.
  • Is it customizable?
  • Is there a cost?
  • Does it insist on keeping the company’s logo in a visible spot?
  • Is it attractive?
  • Can you incorporate your social media links?
  • How many in your group would like to use it?
  • Of the two you are reviewing, which one does your group prefer?

About me, Wordpress.org, Wordpress.com in that order.
  • Wordpress.com is easier to work with, but less flexibility compared to wordpress.org; however, you have to pay for host space with wordpress.org.
    • Wordpress.org is essentially wordpress.com on steriods. Like previously stated, wordpress.org gives your page more customizable options.
